Gaya's charges have won three and lost a similar number of matches so far.
Coach Sadat Gaya’s charges Nairobi City Thunder have their work cut out this weekend as they look to bag maximum points when they go up against Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) men’s league champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and Kisumu Lakeside.
The tactician says the break occasioned by the general election has had its effects and the team is not where he would have wanted them to be in terms of fitness and as such, they have to find a way to beat the holders in their current form.
“KPA are a good side and they have some new players whom we have no answers to just yet as we do not know how they play. This will mean making adjustments mid-match which can be tough but must be done,” offered Gaya.
Gaya’s side has blown hot and cold this season, picking crucial victories against Equity Bank Dumas, Africa Nazarene University (ANU) Wolfpacks, and University of Nairobi (UoN) Terror.
They have also lost an equal number of matches, going down to former champions Ulinzi Warriors, Strathmore Blades and Umoja and thus will be looking to get a better winning ratio when they face the two sides on the weekend.
“Against Kisumu, I can say we are almost ready for them too. We have a chance to watch how they play Blades on Saturday then adjust before facing them on Sunday. In both matches, we hope to get our momentum back,” added Gaya.
The tactician confirms that some of his players may be unavailable for the two matches due to various reasons but in a quick rejoinder says those available know what is expected of them and will deliver as expected.
KBF leagues resumed last weekend with only one premier league match played, pitting Warriors against Dumas with the latter getting their first win against the soldiers in over four years.
